Hesco Defensive Barrier, also known as Hesco bastion, Hesco defense wall, sand cage, or Bastion Barrier, is a prefabricated, multi-cell defensive system. It is manufactured from zinc-coated welded steel mesh and lined with heavy-duty non-woven geotextile fabric. Individual cells can be unfolded, extended, and connected using joining pins, then rapidly filled with sand, soil, or stone to form a strong protective wall or bunker. This system is widely used for military fortification, blast protection, and flood control. ...
Product Features
Cost-effective solution with fast installation
Requires minimal manpower and common construction equipment
Galvanized steel components for long-term durability
Adaptable to different terrains and environments
Fire-resistant structure
Designed for long service life with stable performance
Manufacturing Technique
Hesco Defensive Barriers are produced by welding steel wires into rigid mesh panels of specified sizes. The panels are then connected with spiral springs to form foldable, collapsible units. For convenient transportation, the barriers are supplied in a compact, folded state. On-site, the units can be deployed individually or joined into 3, 5, or more connected cells according to project requirements.
Advantages of Hesco Barrier
Unlike traditional sandbags or common welded gabions, Hesco barriers can be filled directly with locally available materials such as soil, sand, or gravel. This greatly reduces material preparation time and logistics costs, especially in coastal or desert regions where sand is abundant. Filling is typically carried out using a front-end loader, allowing construction to proceed much faster than manual sandbag placement.
Hesco Barrier Structure
The barrier system features a honeycomb-style structure consisting of an external welded steel mesh cage combined with an internal fabric liner. The liner retains fine fill materials while allowing drainage. Geotextile liners are available in colors such as yellow, grass green, beige, or other tones to better blend with surrounding environments.
Application
In practical use, the Hesco barrier forms a solid protective wall once filled with sand, soil, or stone. When geotextile liners are pre-installed, the system allows greater flexibility in filler selection and simplifies construction.
